Newsly

an AI powered application that brings relevant news & information quickly to you.

Newsly is a news application designed as a tool to support investors & analysts to quickly monitor and access news or social media posts, all in one place.

Using NLP and Machine Learning, the application scrapes information from various new sources and applies a sentiment analysis enabling users to have a better oversight on informational topics in a personalized view based on their interests.

The Problem

Researching through various new sites can be tedious.

Existing methods for searching and finding trustworthy articles is time consuming for employees doing research. The current workflow of these expert users exhibit the following key problems:

  • Difficultly searching and storing all research information of interest from multiple sources.

  • Search results may be subject to bias, e.g. “You look what you want to look for”.

  • Wide disparate set of resources too choose from. “Too many windows can be a headache.”

Each of these problems could potentially impact the bottom line in a negative way.

Private Equity Analyst

“II liked to see trends, to understand how the industry feel about a public announcement. But I have little time to go through so many articles and reading them all can be very tedious..”

Investment Manager

“News is an important part of my research, but there is so much information out there and so many sites, it can be overwhelming.”

The Project

The enterprise Advanced Analytics team wanted to scale the application from a proof of concept and grow the userbase. In order to accomplish this there was an immediate need to re-design and develop a personalized interface for the enterprise where leaders, analysts and investors can save time on finding trustworthy research to support their decision making.

User Research

Empathize and Define.

As part of the design process, we conducted a series of interviews for existing users as well as prospective users to empathize and surface insights that could be used to refine the value proposition and support ideation on the future design.

We conducted 7 semi-structured interviews, 15 deployed surveys to support the collection of user data. In addition we conducted 5 usability study with existing users to help us understand current state experience and frustrations.

The Solution

No flipping through papers, accessing multiple portals or reading through massive amounts of text.

An interface that brings your news subscriptions all together in one place where you can quickly search read and share news with your peers
